Jaime and I are enjoying our stay here in Merida. Merida is the capital of Yucatan and features a well preserved colonial core (called centro). Our Bed and breakfast Casa Santiago is only four blocks from the main plaza so it’s easy to walk and enjoy the sights. The downside is that it’s pretty hot and sticky here this time of the year but we’ve been trying to take it easy.
We received a little rain today from tropical storm Dolly but didn’t get the heavy rain and wind forecasted. Cpt. Jim emailed that he saw 40+ knot wind on Isla early this AM but is doing fine. Unfortunately for him the storm is headed for his home in Texas and probably turning into a full blown hurricane before it makes landfall.

Many gringos have moved here and fixed up the old colonial houses abandoned by the Mexican middle and upper classes as they have moved to American style ‘burbs North of the city.
This one screams potential. Wire me some money and I will make an offer.
