Mojave National Preserve

We’ve become certified desert rats. After leaving Death Valley we headed South for Mojave National Preserve. The area is administered by the National Park Service and features expansive mesas, joshua trees, tortoises, jeep trails, and giant yuccas.

We stayed at the Hole in the Wall Campground. Despite a dirt road detour thanks to Google Maps and misleading signs we arrived safely if not dust free and found a good spot.

The rings trail next to the campground leads to a narrow canyon between the rock formations where Hole in the Wall gets it’s name.

Iron rings help hikers climb up the crevice.

I’m not sure if these were wild horses but the road and canyon next to them was called Wild Horse…

Our final night we built a fire and enjoyed the super moon and some stars. Coyotes hollowed in the distance making it a classic desert experience.

We would definitely like to come back here sometime and explore the area more.

  1. Great camping spot. Funny, I’m not familiar with Mojave National Preserve, but heard about it twice this week. Seems like a good place to explore.

    1. You guys would love it. Take your camper and explore.

  2. I really loved Mojave. That campground was so peaceful, and “views from the View” out my bedroom window were spectacular!

    1. I agree and would love to go back sometime.
