Port Townsend

For the second year in a row, our Glacier National Park plans were dashed by wildfires. Plan B was to head somewhere on the coast to wait it out and experience usually reliably great weather in Septemeber. We had wanted to get back to La Conner and Port Townsend in Washington and found space at the Evergreen Coho SKP Park just south of Port Townsend for the busy Labor Day weekend. The SKP parks are Escapees member only and a good value at around $19 per day for a water and electric site with a weekly rate discount.

Evergreen SKP turned out to be one of the cleanest RV parks we have ever stayed. The photo above shows an awesome tiny house and yard one of the members built. The temporary sites were a little close together but everyone was friendly. We enjoyed a happy hour with a couple from San Diego we met in the park and got out for some sight seeing.

Marrowstone Vineyards on the neighboring island.

Fort Flagger at the end of Marrowstone Island.

Port Townsend is a very cute Victorian seaport. The movie “Officier and Gentleman” was filmed here and at nearby Fort Worden.

You can still walk around the gun placements at Fort Worden.

We stayed at the state park in our trailer in 2009.

Our week passed pretty quickly and we might come back next year and spend longer.

For just over $90 we took The Bago and Jeep on the ferry over to Whidbey Island.

It was a fun little mini-adventure.

Next stop La Conner.

  1. Oh no. Sorry to hear about the planned Glacier National Park trip. With a recent trend of widespread summer wildfires, it makes summer trip planning and reservation a crapshoot. We were fortunate enough this year to avoid most of smoke.

    1. Thanks, Keng. The wildfires do seem to be getting worse. Glad you guys avoided most of the smoke.

  2. Great pics we will definitely put this trip on our plans for next year. Thanks for sharing it makes our planning a lot easier.
